Entry On the night 23rd/24th the Battn furnished 400 men for burying cable. The Battn was allotted approximately 1800 yards to dig and the work was to done by two shifts, the first to dig to a depth of 5 feet and the second to dig down to 7'6" and fill in after the cable was laid. On the first night some 400 yards were completed, in spite of considerable difficulty in digging through two roads which had to be crossed. The parties were taken to and from their work by the light railway.
