Entry | (5th - 10th) During the 5th reconnaissance's of the forward area and the approaches wee made by officers and NCOs in the evening the Bde relieved the 6th Inf Bde. Two Battns went into the line, 10th Cheshire Regt on right in trenches E of GIVENCHY and LE PLANTIN 3rd Worcs Regt on left occupying line from A 3 a.8.6. To QUINQUE RUE. (Sheet LA BASSE 36cN.W.1 and RICHEBOURG 36 S W.8). The Battn went into Bde Support, Battn HQ and Two Coys at WINDY CORNER, 1 Coy garrisoning GIVENCHY KEEPS and the remaining Coy occupying old British line S of QUINQUE RUE to its junction with WILLOW ROAD. On the 4th a draft of 8 other ranks joined the Battn. Throughout this period the Battn remained in Bde Support. Working parties were furnished by the two Coys at WINDY CORNER for the 251st Tunnelling Company, RE with reference to the mining in progress in this Sector. The Coy in the old British line worked upon its own trench and improved existing shelters and was responsible for the maintenance of BARTON Rd CT and FIFE Rd CT. The Keeps Coy worked upon the defences of the Keeps. Officers and NCOs thoroughly reconnoitred the line the Battn was to take over from the 10th Cheshire Regt, and also the approaches to the line from Support positions, particularly overland routes. Both sides were very quiet during this period. Officers and other ranks joined the Battn for duty on dates as follows:- On 7th for duty as Second in Command, in place of Major G D Brown, MC, attending Commanding Officers Course at ALDERSHOT. Major C L Blew, Worcs Hussars attached, 3rd Worcs Regt. On 8th, four officers, 2nd Lieuts, W E H Kennedy, D A Owen, A V S Grant, F L A Goad. On the 9th, 2 men. |
