Entry During the night of the 4th/5th the left Coy advanced their line, establishing posts immediately W of the WESTHOEK - FREZENBERG Road. During the morning orders were received for the relief of the 7th Bde by the 74th Bde. The relief was somewhat complicated as it was carried out by portions of two Battns. Eventually the right half sector was relieved by the 2nd RIR and the left half sector by the 9th LN Lancs Regt, relief began complete about midnight. While the last Coy was still between BELLEWAARDE Ridge and the CHATEAU WOOD the enemy commenced to shell very heavily using large numbers of mustard gas shells and also some phosphorous shells. No casualties were caused and with the exception of a few of HQ the Battn was able to make its way back to the transport where a hot meal was in readiness. Our casualties were:- 1 Officer and 2 ORs killed and 1 Officer and 3 ORs wounded. 2nd Lieut J Wood was killed by a shell in the support trench and 2nd Lieut G Filor MC was wounded by a fragment of shell on the MENIN Road.
