Regiment 1st Wiltshire
Location Belgium, [Bellewarde]
Entry (15th - 19th) During this period the Battn, less the large party under the CRE at PIONEER CAMP, remained in the line, with a Coy of the 10th Cheshire Regt in close support. Throughout the time there was great artillery activity on the part of both sides, and the making of assembly trenches, which was the Battn's chief task while in the line, was considerably hampered by hostile shellfire continually blowing in fresh work. Gas shells chiefly between 9p.m. and midnight also made work extremely difficult. The relief of the Battn by the 10th Cheshire Regt took up the greater part of two days, 19th & 20th and was carried out by bodies of not more than half platoons in strength moving at large intervals. The Battn moved back into Bde Support in the Ramparts near the station, YPRES. The casualties during the period under review were:- 15th Killed, 2 other ranks, wounded, 2nd Lieut B H Stirling and 2 other ranks, wounded, still at duty, 1 other ranks. 16th Killed, 1 other rank, wounded, 6 other ranks, wounded (gas) 1 other rank, wounded, still at duty, 3 other ranks. 17th Killed, 1 other rank, wounded, 10 other ranks, wounded (gas),1, wounded, still at duty 3.
