Regiment | 1st Wiltshire |
---|---|
Location | France, Le Touquet |
Entry | (6th - 10th) During this period the Battn remained in the line, and except for occasional indiscriminate and rather scattered firing on the part of the enemy's guns, little activity was displayed by either side. Opposite the left half of the Battn Sector so marked was the absence of activity on the enemy's part that it was considered possible that the enemy had withdrawn or was at least holding his line very thinly. Each Coy sent out a patrol on the night of the 9th to discover if the line opposite its front was held and if so, in what strength. All patrols reported that the front line was occupied. The enemy's wire was too strong to allow parties getting through and obtaining an identification. On the 8th there were two casualties in C Coy due to shell fire: wounded 22294 Pte Dyke, C and 31688 Pte Wingrove, C. Reinforcement, 1 officer, 2nd Lieut H W B Burkett, and 6 other ranks joined the Battn for duty on the 8th. On the night of the 10th the Battn in Bde Reserve was relieved by the 8th LN Lancs Regt and proceeded to PONT DE NIEPPE, as Battn in Bde Reserve. The 10th Cheshire Regt became the Battn in Bde Support. No casualties occurred during relief. |
