War Diary

1917-02-07
Regiment 1st Wiltshire
Location Belgium, Ploegsteert Wood
Entry (7th - 8th Feb) In the trenches. These two days passed quietly, and it was suspected that a Saxon Regt had taken over the line, a change of attitude on the enemy's part being quite noticeable. His aeroplanes were particularly active, while our anti-aircraft defence was weak. During the afternoon of the 8th, our heavy trench mortars and howitzers registered upon the enemy's defences in the neighbourhood of FACTORY FARM, N of the Battn Sector: this was in view of a proposed raid at this point in which C Coy was to take part. On the evening of the 8th C Coy was withdrawn from the line and billeted in the PIGGERIES: preparatory to a short period of training for the raid. There was one casualty on the 8th, 9487, Pte Andrews, W of A Coy.
