Entry | The trenches. The enemy's artillery and trench mortars were active during the day, particularly in rear of GAP D and in the neighbourhood of HARNIANS AVENUE, PATERNOSTER ROW, SUFFOLK AVENUE etc. From 4.15p.m. to 4.45p.m. there was a heavy bombardment of these parts, but little material damage was done and no casualties were caused. Our retaliation was slow in coming and feeble. The snipers claimed one hit. Lieut R FJ Hayward was admitted to hospital sick. |
