War Diary

1916-10-17
Regiment 1st Wiltshire
Location France, Donnets Post
Entry The morning was spent in training, but about 10.30a.m. our GSO 1 visited the Battn and warned the CO that the Battn would have to go to the trenches to hold the line while the 74th Brigade came out for a short rest before an attack. Orders to this effect were received from brigade at 1.45p.m. and the Battn started off immediately and relieved the 11th Battn Lancs Fusiliers in the Right Brigade Sector of the line. On arrival at 11th LF HQ, their CO advised us to go to the HQ in ZOLLERN redoubt. Arrived there and found it was occupied by the 10th Battn Cheshire Regt. The CO then returned to forward HQ. The relief was completed by about 9.30a.m. The Battn was [?] to the 74th Brigade. A draft of 47 men arrived at the Transport.
