Following recommendations, result of recent operations. For Military Medal No 6975 CSM James, at the Leipzig Salient on the 24th August this warrant officer displayed the utmost gallantry and qualities of leadership on an attack on the enemy's trench. He showed the finest example to the men under his command and by his initiative was largely instrumental in the consolidation of the position gained until he was severely wounded. For DCM At the Leipzig Salient on 24th August, No 6975 Sgt Loveday, A W. This NCO in an attack on the enemy trench displayed the greatest gallantry. On reaching the enemy trench he was mainly instrumental in gaining touch with the battalion on the right. Despite the strenuous resistance offered by a party of the enemy xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx of a bombing attack and his own personal bravery in jumping on to the parapet with a small party of men and attacking the enemy he compelled them to surrender. Throughout the attack showing great gallantry. For Military Medal No 8870 Pte Evans, Francis Enoc. This man at the Leipzig Salient on 25th August attended the wounded consistently during six hours of heavy shelling, carrying them into shelter himself and gallantly making his way along the trench which being blown in made him in full view of the enemy. He continuously dressed wounds thereby saving many lives. |
