| Entry | Trenches in front of Leipzig Salient. Battn line was D Coy extending to Thiepval Ave and relieving the 11th Cheshire Regt & 8th Borders. A Coy continued to consolidate the Leipzig Salient and extended their line to the right by 150yards erecting barricades. About 12.30a.m. a heavy hostile attack was directed against our position in the Leipzig Salient, the enemy were seen to leave their trenches and from information from a prisoner captured it was found that they attacked in waves of 2 platoons. At 12.30a.m. a very intense bombardment on our front line and continued till 2a.m of 5th. Casualties:- wounded 11 Killed 1. |
