Entry (21st -27th) During this period company and Battn training was continued particular attention was paid to the development of initiative and leadership in section commander and to fire control by the junior NCOs. The advance to the assault and the assault itself were practised, first by single companies and then by the whole Battn, and the part played by specialists such as Lewis Gunners, Signallers and bombers and by carrying and wiring parties, was also demonstrated. In the meantime considerable attention was given to bayonet fighting, and the services of a sergeant major of the Army Gymnasts Staff were utilised for instructing the officers and NCOs. This instruction was then passed on to the men.
