Regiment 1st Wiltshire
Location France, Pylones
Entry In the trenches. Fire from 2 inch trench mortar in the afternoon drew heavy retaliation from the enemy who replied by firing from a heavy trench mortar once in about every two minutes for one and a quarter hours. Damage was done to the trenches but no casualties were caused. Beyond this the enemy showed little activity: his sniping was far less brisk. Works: wiring during the night of the 25/26th: two flying traverses were erected in Common CT between the outpost line and retrenchment: the outpost line of the centre company was built up in places to give better cover from hostile sniping. On the night of the 26/27th the damage done to Grange CT by trench mortar fire was repaired and further wire put out in front of the centre and left companies. There were four casualties:- Killed, Bandsman Wood, C D. , Company stretcher bearer. Wounded, Pte Alford, P. D Coy. Ptes Pike, W A and Burt, E of B Coy. The night passed very quietly. Weather fine.
