Regiment 1st Wiltshire
Location France, Pylones
Entry In the trenches. Enemy snipers were more active. There was the usual firing of Stokes guns and rifle grenades, the former appearing to be very successful. What was believed to be a kind of rocket grenade was fired on the right Coys front. The snipers claimed three of the enemy. Work on the night of 24/25th consisted chiefly of putting out a considerable amount of wire in front of outpost and resistance lines, and repairing damage done by hostile mortar fire. In the left Coy in order to shield bombing posts a rabbit wire bomb screen was erected. At about 11p.m. a considerable number of casualties was caused among ration parties by an accident which occurred at the railways dump. One of the mules struck against an old French aerial torpedo which was lying close to the track. The projectile exploded, and there were many killed and wounded of this Battn and of the 3rd Worcester Regt. Beyond these casualties two men of the centre Coy were wounded by a rifle grenade. The casualties were:- Killed, Pte Shute, T. Wounded, L/Cpl Irons, S, L/Cpl Collier, F, Ptes Wagg, G, Cruse, S, Gibbs, H, King, A T, Lovelock, H, Cox, A and Drummer Dunne, F.
