War Diary

1916-01-16
Regiment 1st Wiltshire
Location Belgium, Ploegsteert Wood
Entry In the early morning considerable progress was made with the opening up of Westminster Avenue, a short length of fresh trench being cut in place of the old. A quiet day. In the evening the enemy fired a few rifle grenades against trench 123: we retaliated strongly. In the course of the day five Germans were sniped and it is believed that further casualties were caused by our machine gun in the night.
