On 2 Apr 1885, Sudan, Near Suakin. Battalion remained in Tofrek Zariba, Tamai Road from 22 March 1885 to 2 April 1885, into which the enemy fired nightly.
On 2 April the Battalion marched on Tamai. Arrived at Teselah Hills, constructed Zariba and bivouacked.
The next day, 3 April, the Battalion, in Brigade, marched towards Tamai. There was light contact with the enemy. A village was burned by the cavalry. Returned to Zariba and bivouacked. One killed, two wounded.
On 4 April the Battalion marched to Suakin and encamped.
On 6 April the Battalion escorted convoy to Tofrek Zariba and back.
On 9 April the Battalion marched to West Redoubt and encamped.
On 11 April the Battalion marched to and encamped in Zariba Handrouh Road.
On 24 Apr 1885, Sudan, Otao. Battalion marched to a Zariba near Otao and encamped.
On 1 May it marched to Handouh and encamped.
On 25 May the Battalion entrained for Suakin. Before departure, enemy advanced to withing 1000 yards. Dispersed by fire from 'H' Company. Enemy reappeared and fired, without effect, as train departed.
The Battalion arrived at Suakin on 23 May. Headquarters, 'A', 'B', 'C', 'D' and 'E', Companies embarked in 'Loch-Ard'. 'F', 'G', and 'H' Companies embarked in 'Conway Castle'.
On 29 Apr 1885, India, Nowshera. Detachment, 'B' Company and part of 'E' Company (One Officer, eight Corporals and 67 Men) by rail to Fort Attock to relieve detachment
On 16 May 1885, India, Nowshera. Party (One Officer, seven Corporals and 34 Men) commenced march for Chirat. Due to a man of 'E' Company contracting Cholera, party encamped at Sillakhanah until 27 May. 'E' company camped near Nowshera race course until 20 May 1885
On 26 May 1885, Egypt, Suez. Battalion arrived at Suez on 26 May and remained on board ships until the next day, when it disembarked, entrained and proceeded to Cairo. Quartered in Abbassiyeh Barracks.
On 6 June 1885, Egypt, Cairo. Battalion casualties during Battalion's time in Egypt. Killed in Action:- One Officer, one Sergeant and 20 Privates. Died of Wounds:- Three Privates. Died of Disease:- Nine Privates. Wounded in Action:- Two Sergeants and 32 Privates. Missing (confirmed dead):- Two Privates. Invalided to England:- Three Officers, eight Sergeants and 126 Privates.

On 4 Aug 1885, India, Nowshera. Between 4 and 15 August eight parties travelled by rail between Nowshera and Pubbi, bullock cart between Pubbi and Shahkote, and marched between Shahkote and Chirat, halting overnight at Shahkote
