| Entry | Final preparations for the raid were made. After dusk the route was prepared with tapes. A preliminary 3 minute bombardment of the "point of entry" and surrounding trenches took place at 9pm. The Raiding Party under Captain KNOTT successfully entered the enemy trenches but found the part of the system enclosed by our BOX BARRAGE to have been cleared and no identifications could be secured. The Enemy's retaliatory Artillery and MG Fire was heavy and accurate on our forward and support trenches. |
