War Diary

Regiment 5th Wiltshire
Location Mesopotamia, Cavalry Barracks
Entry Left the Cavalry Barracks at 6a.m and rejoined Brigade at ES SALAKH whence we moved off at 9a.m for DAUDIE a distance of about 8 miles arriving at 3p.m. The road was extremely rough. A & D Companies detached on march as flank guard and to clear villages of snipers did not reach the bivouac until 7p.m. The villagers were very friendly and handed eggs and oranges to the men in passing.
