Regiment 2nd Wiltshire
Location France, St Aubert
Entry Battn in support. At 0320 hours the 57th Brigade on our right in conjunction with the Division on their right attacked and successfully gained all their objectives. A dummy barrage was put down on our front, but little counter shooting resulted. Rest of the day quiet. Companies cleaning up, burying dead and resting. At 2000 hours orders were received that the Battn would withdraw without relief. The 61st Division was relieving the 19th that night and were going right through us: accordingly at 2200 hours coys withdrew without relief and marched independently back to RIEUX where they met guides who showed them to their billets. The whole Battalion had withdrawn by 2240 hours and all were in billets by 0100 hours 24th.
