War Diary

1918-10-19
Regiment 2nd Wiltshire
Location France, St Aubert
Entry In the morning slit trenches were dug on the high ground just West of the River SELLE to be used at Battle Battn HQrs. Day spent in preparing for the attack. About 1500 hours a patrol went out from 'D' coy to see if the Railway embankment was still held by the enemy. They managed to cross the R. SELLE but were fired on later, only the NCO returning. 2/Lt Welsford took out a second patrol later to bring in the wounded and managed to gain the Railway embankment which was then found unoccupied by the enemy. The result was the Battalion assembled in the Railway Embankment and the Barrage Table was altered. At 1930 hours Battalion HQ moved forward to its Battle Position. At 2240 hours 'A' and 'C' companies moved forward to their assembly positions arriving there at 2359 hours.
