66th Regiment - A sepia photograph of the reformed band at New Barracks Gosport 1881. Nine of these bandsmen are wearing the Afghanistan Campaign medal. It is believed that Band Sergeant Connolly is stood on the left. The officer in the centre is Lieutenant Granville De la Motte Faunce who commanded the smooth bore battery in the battle of Maiwand.

The photo was taken by Ex Private Christopher Connolly (In photo) who served in 1 DERR in Hong Kong and Catterick leaving in 1994 on the occasion of the Regiments merger with the Gloucestershire Regiment. He transferred to the Worcester and Forester Regiment (WFR) remaining for a further five years. He took this image in 2013 whilst employed as a security officer in Basra. [The memorial was moved to this location just prior to the 2nd Gulf War on the orders of Saddam Hussein]

49th Regiment - A sepia portrait photo of Brevet Major Connolly as an Officer in the Coldstream Guards (see R6345) around 1880. Born 30 November 1829 in Ireland, he was commissioned into the 49th Regiment of Foot on 25 February 1848.
