L/Corporal George Henry Waites is seated in the centre of the picture and is wearing a Military Medal ribbon with the unidentified soldier to his left displaying two Good Conduct Stripes and two Wound Stripes on his left sleeve.

1st Bn, Wiltshire Regiment - A black and white photograph showing Wiltshire Regiment members of the 'Hampshire' Battalion after returning from Russia on 6 October 1919. They returned to Crowborough where its members were dispersed to their own Regiments, 'Z' Company rejoining the 1st Battalion, Wiltshire Regiment in Dublin. Before leaving the camp many of the soldiers sat for commemorative photographs. This one shows CSMs Yeats; Robbins; Moss; Waite, MC, DCM; and Bramstt; CQMS Archard, and Sgt Drummer Porter. CSM Waite is seated in the centre row on the right. On his left lower sleeve are three wound stripes. On his left upper arm is the White star which was worn by all units serving in the North Russian Expedition.
5th Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A black and white photocopy of a photograph of Company Sergeant Major 10574 Alfred Waite DCM. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal in 1916. He went to France on the 30th May 1915 and was commissioned on the 29.5.17. He was killed on the 5.4.18 and is buried in Bouzincourt Ridge Cemetery, Albert 1.C.5.

Royal Berkshire Regiment - A sepia photograph of Private George Waites (sitting) together with his brother Henry Waites. This photograph was taken in August 1914 and is believed to have been taken to commemorate George joining the Army. His brother Henry was serving in a Fusilier London Regiment at this time and George was destined to join the 8th Battalion Royal Berkshire Regiment.
3rd Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A sepia photograph of a group of recruits at the end of their training in Portsmouth in 1915. Seated front right is Private 18207 George Waites who was posted to the 8th (Service) Battalion in France. Seated front left is his friend Private 18220 Walter Chandler who, whilst acting as a company runner, was killed by a direct hit from a shell on the 23rd July 1916.

1st Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A sepia photograph of three soldiers in 1917. Standing right (as you view the image) is Private 18207 George Waites. On his left lower sleeve is an inverted stripe showing three years service, below which are two wound stripes. Private Waites had previous service in the 8th Battalion. Sat is L/Cpl 27015 Charles Gale MM. He is wearing the Military Medal ribbon. On the 27th January 1918 L/Cpl Gale was hit by a snipers bullet at Villers Plouich which resulted in the amputation of his leg.
1st Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A sepia photograph of Corporal 18207 George Waites in Germany 1919 as part of the Army of Occupation. On his left lower sleeve are two wound stripes, and on his right four overseas chevrons, indicating four years service overseas. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal on the 14th February 1919.
