1st Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A sepia photograph of the National Service intake number 55 about to leave the Battalion for demob in 1958 whist in Cyprus. In the back row from left to right they are Privates Greenaway, Underwood, Corner, Pete Acott and Don Baker and, in the front, Privates Read, Skuse, Llewellyn, Matthews and Whittington. [The constant turnover of National Servicemen caused a number of problems with continuity and skills. Some were ?persuaded? to serve for an extra year which gave them a small pay rise]
5th Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A black and white photograph of Private (Sapper) 33692 John Thomas Underwood. He is shown as a member of the Royal Engineers prior to being posted to the Battalion. The date of transfer is not known but he was killed in action on the 24th July 1917. He was probably transferred to replace battlefield losses in the Battalion.

He was killed in on the 18th March 1945 and is buried in Taukkyan War Cemetery. He was the son of Mark Francis and Edith Underwood; husband of Vera Winnifred Underwood, of East Grinstead, Sussex.
