SBYRW : 61072nd Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A sepia photo of an Officers Group at Umballa, India in "1907" as is hand printed on the top of the photo. Another copy of this photo complete with all the names of the officers in it is held as Object 32361 which has the date 1909 printed on it. It is not clear whch is correct.

SBYRW : 62355th Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A collection of documents belonging to Captain P. J. Prior, the documents cover the period 1939 to 1945. Included are three speeches made to troops concerning the victory over Germany, they are dated May and June 1945 and May 1946; three Menus, the first menu is dated the 29th of November 1944, the second Friday 25th of July 1947 (the dinner was held by General Sir Miles C Dempsey), and the date of the third is unknown. Two of the Menu's have a handwritten or signatured list of attendees in them, one has the names of attendees typed in order of rank inside and on the back cover of the menu. The document includes an issue of the 'Battalion News' dated the 28th of March 1945, the location given is West Germany. There are three documents that contained detailed information on proceedures (or orders) to follow. The document includes a number of training manuals for various courses, photocopies of fitness and medical records and a memoir entitled 'Fifty Years Ago Today' written by P J Prior CBE, DL and dated the 6th of June 1994 which recalls the D Day landings.

In addition, there is a letter dated 19th March 1941 from Lord George Scott of the 18th Hussars to Colonel Foley, plus a copy of a congratulatory memorandom to Major F.W.N. McCracken from Colonel Erroll, C.S.O Cavalry Division, dated February 6th 1900.

[Note re Dawes - He was a career soldier and much decorated Boer War veteran, Lieutenant George Dawes served with the Royal Berkshire Regiment and was one of the first Britons to learn to fly, gaining his pilot's license (No. 17) in 1910. Promoted to Captain soon after, he was transferred to the newly formed Royal Flying Corps and commanded No. 11 Squadron (for eight months in 1915) before being posted to the Balkans as Officer Commanding, RFC in that theatre of war, a position he held from 1916 to 1918. Mentioned in dispatches on seven occasions, Dawes was honoured by the Greek and Serbian Governments and awarded the French Croix de Guerre.]
