View Item1st Bn, Duke of Edinburgh's Royal Regiment - A booklet titled 'Philosophy and tactics of armoured warfare. This came from a presentation by German Generals Back and Von Mellenthin on tactics and implications for NATO military Doctrine, December 19, 1980. (Booklet published 1986). The contents were disseminated to all battalion commanders including 1 DERR who were at that time a mechanised Infantry Battalion in West Germany. The two Generals related their extensive experience on the Eastern Front during the 2nd World War. What they were saying was considered to be very relevant to modern armoured warfare with many lessons contained with. (includes some sketch plans of some of the operations carried out in Russia.

Issued in the early 1980s and used by Major D J A Stone when the battalion was based in Osnabruck, West Germany. It is also in German. One copy was for those posted to Germany and the second for press information.

This was used bt Lieutenant D J A, Stone (1 DERR from the tactics wing of the school of infantry at Warminster, All Arms Division who was the platoon commander of Montgomery Platoon. He was detached from the battalion which at that time was based in Alma Barracks, Catterick. (Companies in British Honduras, Canada and Northern Ireland).

View Item3rd Bn, Parachute Regiment - A post operational report on Operation Corporate (Falklands), dated October 1982 by the Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Pike. This report was designed to outline the battalions experience and to disseminate to the whole army the lessons learned. The report is sub divided into 12 Annexes : Annex A. Outline account of 3 Paras part in Op Corporate. Annex B. Account of Mount Longdon. Annex C. Operational Comments - Tactics and Training. Annex D. Weapons and Ammunition (Less Support weapons). Annex E. Infantry Support Weapons. Annex F. Clothing. Annex G. Equipment. Annex H. Command and Control. Annex J. Signals. Annex K. Logistics. Annex J. Medical. Annex M. Casualty Evacuation. The commanding Officer of 1 DERR who at this time were based in Osnabruck, West Germany received this copy and lessons taken on by the Paras was passed down by the CO throughout the battalion. Later many suggestions raised in this report were incorporated into Army Infantry training.
