SBYRW : 269261st Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A black and white copy of a photograph of Sergeant 7435 G Smith DCM. He was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for conspicuous gallantry during attack on German position at Passchendaele-Becelaere Road, which resulted in taking enemy's trenches and 70 prisoners. He enlisted on the 19th October 1903 and went to France on the 13.8.14. He was later transferred to the Northamptonshire Regt (No 48139) and still later was Commissioned into the 2nd Battalion. He came from Sparsholt near Winchester in Hampshire. He died in Sept. 1979.
