This is the only known photograph of the Regiment's Colours that were lost the following year in the battle of Maiwand. SBYRW : 2867566th Regiment - A sepia photograph of the reformed band at New Barracks Gosport 1881. Nine of these bandsmen are wearing the Afghanistan Campaign medal. It is believed that Band Sergeant Connolly is stood on the left. The officer in the centre is Lieutenant Granville De la Motte Faunce who commanded the smooth bore battery in the battle of Maiwand.

He is pictured here after being presented to Queen Victoria in 1881. He was not presented with any medal by Queen Victoria but is wearing some sort of medallion. (This is not the decoration he currently wears and displays in the Regimental Museum).
