1st Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A CD containing 141 black and white digital photographs from the Sharman collection. These were collected over many years by Mr Vic Sharman and used on his commemorative website dedicated to the 2nd Battalion Royal Berkshire Regiment in India and Burma. In this case he was sent these images by Mr Ernest William Fereday who served in the battalion from 1935 until after the 2nd World War and for a period in the Kings African Rifles when he was demobbed and joined the Territorial Army (REME).

1st Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A black and white digital photograph of the drums leading the battalion back to Hythe camp, 1935. At this time the battalion was based in Shorncliffe. One of the drummers is Private Ernest William Fereday. (Position not sure). They marched to Hythe which was 3 or 4 miles, stayed in camp there and fired their annual course with rifles and they we qualified they could earn 3d (old money a day extra for a marksman.).

Men employed on transport were dressed like cavalrymen. They had the Bandoliers and breeches and special Lanyard, which was different dress to what the rifle companies wore.

The vehicle following was described as 'that lorry behind the marching troops has no windscreen just tarpaulin stretched across the front and solid tyres. That was the old fashioned lorry for those days'.

1st Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A black and white digital photograph of members of the battalion at Hythe in 1935 when carrying out their annual rifle classification. Standing Left is Bandsman Richens (Killed in France 1940), 2nd Left Private Dyer, 3rd Left, name not known but nicknamed 'creeping Jesus' as he was what they described him as as a 'Bible puncher'. 4th Left Drum Major John Higgs, Right Sergeant Major Warner (nicknamed 'Plum'). Sat right is Private Ernest William Fereday. Sat front centre he name is not known but was nicknamed 'Froggy the Frog'. He at some point ended up in hospital and whilst there studied for a BA in Chinese Art which he achieved.
