Royal Berkshire Regiment Depot - A sepia photograph of the old Colours of the 49th Regiment with their escort at the Reading Barracks in 1891 prior to their being laid up. It shows, 2nd from the left, Captain C.M. Edwards and, on the far right, Lieutenant J.H.W. Southey. The escort to the Colours are all veterans of the campaign in Egypt. They are Colour Sergeants Wood, Parmenter, Trinder and Hounsell but we do not know which one is which.
