2nd Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A hard backed [Damaged spine] photograph album kept by Lieutenant William Brooke Thornton covering mainly his service during the Boer War 1899 - 1902. During that period for a time he served in the 15th Battalion Mounted Infantry and some of the images cover that deployment. [ He took part in the operations in the Orange Free State, March to May 1900 ; in Orange River Colony, May to Nov, 1900, including action at Rhenoster river ; in Cape Colony south of Orange River 1899-1900 ; again during operations on orange river, Nov to May 31st, 1902.] He was initially in The First Mounted Infantry Company which was later (24 November 1900) posted to the 15th Battalion, 8 Corps Mounted Infantry. The 15th Bn consisted of Mounted Infantry sections from the Suffolk Regiment, South Wales Borderers, West Riding Regiment and the Royal Berkshire.
