1st Bn, Duke of Edinburgh's Royal Regiment - A colour photograph showing the Colour Party in 1983. In April 1962, six Fijian recruits joined the Battalion whilst it was serving in Tidworth. They were Privates Baleimatuku, Ravu, Turaga, Qarau, Conivavalagi and Raidani. Three of these soldiers remained with the Battalion for the full term of twenty two years, playing an active part in both regimental and operational affairs. They particularly excelled at boxing and rugby. Here we see the three remaining soldiers together with RSM Venus on their last Ferozeshah Parade in 1983. From left to right, they are Colour Sergeant Baleimatuku, Sergeant Ravu and Colour Sergeant Turaga. To mark the end of the Fijians' service both Colour Sergeants were honoured by being selected to carry the Colours and, as the Regimental Journal recorded, 'The Commanding Officer could not have entrusted the safe guarding of the Colours to two more loyal and dedicated Colour Sergeants'.
