4/6th Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A black and white photo of Brigadier K.P. SMITH presenting Regimental Sergeant Major Les HODGES with the spoon at Windmill Camp, Salisbury Plain in 1957. Brigadier SMITH had served in the 2/4th Bn, Royal Berks in the Great War and with the Regular Battalions between the wars. He commanded the Malta Garrison during the siege in the second world war and commanded a Brigade on the Normandy landings. Les HODGES later went on to become the last Regular Regimental Sergeant Major of the Royal Berkshires and the first Regimental Sergeant Major of the 1st Bn DERR and, also, the Regimental Sergeant Major of the 4th/6th battalion
