2nd Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A sepia photograph taken by Lieutenant Cuthbert Henry Tindall Lucas showing Lieutenant Laurance Homan Mulock Pepys Cockerell, 1901. He joined the battalion in 1899 and at the later part of 1901 went to Northern Nigeria where we believe he serve with a Nigerian Regiment. [He was the fourth child and third son of Mary Mulock Homan-Mulock by her second marriage to Frederick Pepys Cockerell, born on the 15th October 1878. He entered the Royal Military College as a Gentleman Cadet, passing out as 2nd Lieutenant on 15th February 1898 with appointment to the Princess Charlotte of Wales's ( Royal Berkshire Regiment), served in the Boer War 1899-1900 with the 2nd Battalion; mentioned in dispatches, September 1900. Served in Southern Nigeria in the expedition against Aros in 1902 where he was severely wounded. Appointed to the Egyptian Army in 1903.]
