1st Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A black and white photocopy of a photograph of a Maxim gun detachment in Ireland (Dublin) in 1907. At this time each battalion had two such teams. This team is under the command of Lieutenant Benjamin Gonville Bromhead. (L to R) Private Berry, Private Bailey, Lieutenant B.G. Bromhead, Private Hiscock, Private Smith, C.S.I.M. Reed, Private White, Private Stone, Private Sumner, Private Hayes, Private Simmonds, Corporal Smith. [Bromhead was a member of the famous Bromhead family, one of whom won the VC at Rorke's Drift with the 24th of Foot in 1879. He was with the Regiment for many years. In the South African War he served as a Special Service Officer with the Rhodesian Field Force and with Thorneycroft's Mounted Infantry. He went to France in 1914 but was badly wounded shortly after arriving. He died in 1939. His son followed him into the Regiment becoming the last Commanding officer of the Royal Berkshire Regiment in 1959.
