49th Regiment - A sepia photograph of the officers with the Colours in Gibraltar in 1881. The Regiment arrived in Gibraltar on the 13th March 1881 and the following July changed its title to the 1st (Princess of Charlotte of Wales's) Berkshire Regiment. We believe this photograph was taken to commemorate the changeover in title. It shows, in the rear row from left to right an unidentified officer (Paymaster or doctor), Major Fox, Lieutenant Hemphill, Lieutenant Alcock, an unidentified Private, Lieutenant Gordon, an unidentified Private, Lieutenant Burney, sitting, Lieutenant McCracken, Captain Rathbone, Major Huyshe, Colonel Corban, Major Gillespie, Captain Green, an unidentified officer and Captain Kingand; sitting in the front are Lieutenant Whittall, Lieutenant McClintock, Lieutenant Delamain .
