2nd Bn, Wessex Regiment - E (HSF) Company - A black and white photograph of the Home Service Company on the last exercise before disbandment after the 'Options for Change' in 1992. This was Exercise 'Little Big Horn'; the only two members with regimental connections (1 DERR) are L/Corporal M. McIntyre and Private D. Nicholls [2nd row from rear] . This company was badged 'Wessex' and administered by them, but they were a National Home Defence Force. This HDF existed from 1982 to 1993 and, in order to join, you had to be an Ex-Serviceman; it was, in effect a Home Guard unit for guarding key installations during the latter part of the Cold War and, once the Berlin Wall was demolished, it was disbanded. All HSF units were attached to a Territorial Army unit and, in this case, "E" Company was attached to the 2nd Battalion, Wessex Regiment
