The Royal Berkshire Regiment Volume 2 1914 - 1918

This is a facsimile edition of the history written by F Loraine Petre OBE and published by the Regiment in 1925. Petre's history of the Royal Berkshire Regiment is a well respected two volume account from the formation of the 49th Regiment up to the period following the First World War. Each original volume can cost up to £150, if a copy can be found. For many people interested in the regiment the information is more important than having a first edition. This volume covers the history of the regiment from the outbreak of the First World War until the end in 1918.

The idea of having a complete history of the Regiment germinated at the annual meeting of the Regimental Dinner Club on 1st June, 1922, when the following resolutions were passed.

(A) That , in the opinion of this meeting, it is desirable that a history of the Royal Berkshire Regiment should be compiled, such a history to be divided into two parts :

Part 1 - A concise History of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Battalions prior to the Great War.

Part 2 - A more detailed History of all the Battalions forming the Royal Berkshire Corps, during the Great War.
