1st Bn, Duke of Edinburgh?s Royal Regiment - A poster from the late 1980s. The Regiment was constantly seeking ways to gain recruits from the Counties of Berkshire and Wiltshire. The designers of this poster from the late 1980s reckoned that the chance to go to Hong Kong was likely to attract the right kind of men. Although these initiatives were worthwhile, it was always considered that the best recruiting aid was the soldier who persuaded his mate to join up.

1st Bn, Duke Edinburgh?s Royal Regiment - A coloured recruiting poster produced in the early 1960s when the Battalion was stationed on the Island of Malta. The Battalion was one of two garrisoned there at this time. A 'sunshine posting' was considered to be an excellent inducement for potential regular recruits. On arrival in Malta and for most of the tour many of the battalion's soldiers were National Servicemen who after training had been drafted to whichever unit required reinforcements. Those who signed up as regular soldiers normally had a choice of which regiment they went to, many opting to follow family members. Whilst in Malta National Service ended, with those already serving gradually leaving as their time expired. Regiments then had to apply more effort to regular recruitment. Specialist teams were based in England, but it was generally considered that those serving were the best recruiters.
