1st Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A black and white photograph of Private 5349820 William Alston Bird. He enlisted on the 13th November 1941 and served until the 20th February 1947. He was wounded on the 22nd April 1944 by shrapnel to the left ankle and hip. He also suffered from Pneumonia and Malaria. He might well have been a battalion muleteer because in later years he mentioned that his mule was called ?Unconscious?
