Berkshire Militia - A black and white photograph of Captain Charles Edward Howard Vincent in 1875, the year of his retirement from the Berkshire Militia. Formerly an officer of the 23rd of Foot, he came from Donnington near Newbury and, after leaving the Regiment, went on to command the Central London Rifle Rangers. He was appointed Chief of the Criminal Investigation Department at Scotland Yard, and later became the Member of Parliament for Sheffield. He was a Barrister-at-Law and a member of the French bar and was knighted in 1893.
