This image shows the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Tomlinson, at the start of the race. The Nines Cup was an inter Company Cross Country race completed each year when operations allowed. It commemorated the 99th (Lanarkshire) Regiment (after 1881 the 2nd Bn, Wiltshire Regiment) who before the Boer War sold their printing press which produced ?The Nines? Regimental Magazine and, with the proceeds, brought a cup to be competed for each year called ?The Nines Cup?
