8th Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A photocopy of a photograph of (Not very clear) 10249 Sergeant William John Spokes, Distinguished Conduct Medal. His citation read For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When his Battalion was completely surrounded he was one of a bombing party ordered to clear a communication trench for the withdrawal of the Battalion. Both Officers of the bombing party being killed, he organised a fresh party and successfully cleared the trench of the enemy. He showed great gallantry and determination.(L.G. 3rd Sept. 1918)

8th Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A black and white copy of a photograph of Sergeant 10249 William John Spokes DCM. He was awarded his Distinguished Conduct Medal for action on the 21st March 1918. Prior to joining the regiment he spent five years in the Royal Navy. He died in 1973
