Royal Berkshire Regiment - A sepia photocopy of a photograph of Private Jim Slade, an old soldier recalled for the 1st World War. He came from North Moreton in Berkshire, and enlisted 2 June 1897, went on to serve in the Boer War and was discharged in 1903 to the Militia. Here he is seen as a member of the Royal Berks National reserve Company. This unit was the 1st World War version of the Home Guard.

2nd Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A sepia copy of a photograph showing a rifle section of the Battalion on exercise in 1897. The Battalion at this time was based in Talavera Barracks, Aldershot, but spent a significant amount of time under canvas. This photograph was taken near Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire. They are all wearing the home service uniform with Slade Wallace equipment. The only identifiable soldier in this group is Private Jim Slade (kneeling, front right) who came from North Moreton in Berkshire. He enlisted 2 June 1897, went on to serve in the Boer War and was discharged in 1903 to the Militia.
