99th Regiment - A sepia portrait photograph of Lieutenant Colonel. George Marmaduke Reeves, CB, taken in London. He joined the army in 1825 and entered the 99th as a Captain four years later. He commanded the Grenadier Company and was initially described by his follow officers as being 'high minded'. He went with his Regiment to Australia in 1842 and later took the Regiment to India in 1854, the year he took command. In 1860 he sailed with the 99th for the war in China, and was given command of a brigade on arrival, handing over command of the regiment to Lieutenant Colonel Henry James Day. On the way to Pekin he achieved his ambition of being under fire before he died. He was made a CB for his services during that campaign.
