1st Bn, Duke of Edinburgh?s Royal Regiment - A colour photograph showing a unit of the Battalion strapped into a helicopter ready to deploy, with Sergeant Pocock to the right looking rather apprehensive. At the conclusion of the exercise the Battalion returned to England by sea and air. In May, the Commander, 24 Airmobile Brigade, confirmed that the Ist Battalion had achieved the objectives set and was now 'fit-for-role' as an airmobile infantry battalion. It remained in this role until 1994 when the Regiment amalgamated with the Gloucestershire Regiment.

Standing Left to Right are Privates Hignell, Boshier, Odey, Fawcett, Pocock, Dean. (Sitting Left to Right) Privates Cooling, Saunders, Baigent, Sergeant Hancock, Lieutenant Nugent, L/Corporal Vaughan, Privates Haynes, Bailey, Wheeler. All Infantry battalions, prior to the 1st World War, were equipped with two machine guns. After the outbreak of war in 1914, when the full enormity of the threat became apparent, the machine gun capability was substantially increased, leading to the formation of the Machine Gun Corps, with many of the Battalion?s machine gunners transferring into that unit.

2nd Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A black and white photograph of Private 11721 Frederick Pocock. He was killed in action on the 15th March 1915, aged 20. He came from Rounds Hill, Binfield. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Le Touret Memorial.
