5th Bn, Wiltshire Regiment - A colour photograph of the Commonwealth war grave head stone for Lieutenant Colonel 56693 John Harold Child Pearson, the Commanding Officer of the Battalion, killed in action on the 7th August 1944. His parent regiment was the South Lancashire Regiment, the cap badge of which is shown on his headstone. He had already been awarded the Distinguished Service Order. He is buried in the Tilly-Sur-Seulles War Cemetery (Grave VI.C.I.). He was killed in the Battalions action at Mont Pincon when the Battalion were held up he was described as ?He then strode away down that road of hell, swinging his walking stick and with a red rose showing defiantly in his hat. He reached the bridge and there seeing the men taking cover in a stream he urged them on. Inspired by his example, they were not slow to obey his command, but as they went up and over the top, the colonel, fell shot through the heart by a German sniper.
