1st Bn, Duke of Edinburgh's Royal Regiment - A black and white photo of a general view of the Battalion's camp entrance outside Nicosia in Cyprus in 1984; the Regimental Policeman on the gate is L/Corporal 'Tiny' Parrott. The Battalion had been split into two during this tour, with one half based at Alexandra barracks in Dhekelia, as part of The Eastern Sovereign Base Area (ESBA) Det. The other half as United Nations troops, at various locations along the green line, with its HQ at St Davids camp. Halfway through the tour, these 2 detachments swapped locations. At the time, the Regimental Provost Detachment was made up of the following troops; Sergeant Kev Batty, (Provost Sergeant), Corporal Alan Hiscock (Provost Corporal) L/Corporals 'Tiny' Parrott, Garon 'Garbo' Hawkes, Pete Lealman and Colin Pethick. At any one time there were 2 of the Privost detachment on Blue Beret (United Nations) Duties at St Davids Camp, with the remainder at Alexander barracks. They regularly changed over so as to give each member of the Section time for a 'holiday' at Alexander Barracks - where work started at around 0530 hours and went on until approximately 1330 hours when cookhouse was called by the duty bugler, and anyone not on essential duties was stood down to enjoy sports etc, whereas on BB duties, it was operational and work went on all day and night.
