2nd Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A black and white photocopy of a photograph of Sergeant 8022 Walter Oakley DCM. He was born in 1887 and enlisted at Reading on the 25th September 1905; he was posted to the 2nd Battalion in India. He went to France on the 6.11.14. The citation for his Distinguished Conduct Medal reads ?For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He took command of a bombing party, and succeeded in clearing the enemy out of the trench. He set a fine example of courage and determination. (L.G. 11th May 1917)?. He was taken prisoner at the same time and died in 1968.
