In the 3rd row, on the extreme left is Sergeant Perry, 3rd from the left is Colour Sergeant Pendlebury, 5th from the left is Sergeant Webster, 7th from the left is Colour Sergeant Holland and 8th from the left is Band Sergeant Spencer. 2nd Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A sepia photograph of Lieutenant Archibald Henry Mankelow in Meerut, India, November, 1910. The following year he transferred to the 39th Garhwal Rifles. [He was awarded the Military Cross and was killed in action in 1915 serving with that regiment, his obituary read.... Obituary in The Times, Wednesday, May 26, 1915; ?Lieutenant Archibald Henry Mankelow, who was killed on May 14, was the only son of Captain H. J. Mankelow, the Wiltshire Regiment (retired). He was born in 1887, and received his commission from Sandhurst in 1907 in the Royal Berkshire Regiment. He was afterwards transferred to the 1/39th Garhwal Rifles, Indian Army, and proceeded to France in September last. He served with the Garhwal Brigade as machine-gun officer of his battalion up to and including the battle of Neuve Chappelle, where he was slightly wounded. He remained at duty, however, and was awarded the Military Cross for services in connection with operations in the field. He was afterwards appointed bomb gun officer with the Garhwal Brigade, and served in that capacity up to the time of his death.?]
