1st Bn, Duke of Edinburgh?s Royal Regiment - A black and white photograph of Captain Ben Hodgson (left) overseeing Private Alan Seaward of the Mortar Platoon in Berlin in 1973. [Captain Hodgson had spent two years in the Persian Gulf where he was wounded twice. He was awarded the Sultan's medal for gallantry. His father, Mr T.C.B. Hodgson, was formerly Chief Constable of Berkshire Constabulary and later became the first Chief Constable of the Thames Vally Police].

2nd Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A sepia photograph of Lieutenant George Graham Hodgson. After receiving his commission, he served for two years in the 7th (Reserve) Battalion of the Royal Fusileers. In 1910 he was posted to the 2nd Battalion, Royal Berkshire Regiment in Meerut, India. He went to France with the Battalion in September 1914. He commanded a company during the attack on the 9th May 1915 at Festubert where he was wounded. He was last seen leading his men into the German Trenches and was never seen again. He was an expert German scholar and linguist and was chiefly instrumental in arranging the truce with the Saxons who occupied the trenches in front of his Battalion on Christmas Day, 1914.
