1st/4th Bn, Royal Berkshire Regiment - A black and white copy of a photograph of Sergeant Frederick Charles Giles, seen here in early 1915 in the Trenches at Hebuterne. Sergeant Giles was an excellent shot and was particularly active in the area of Pozieres in July 1916, where he accounted for a number of 'Huns' as described by the Regimental History. He went on to win the Military Medal and was Killed in Action on the 16th April 1917. He has no known grave but is commemorated on the Thepval Memorial to the missing. He is shown wearing the cloth shoulder title 'Royal Berks' with the number 4 underneath.
